Gasa Gasa is small on purpose.

Freret Street, a couple hundred bodies, a stage low enough that the front row can read a setlist. Nothing about the night is padded — no arena reverb to hide behind, no video wall doing the emotional work. What you hear is what three artists can actually do in a room.

Aaniyah Anderson, Mac Infinity and Kai De Lua are not a package tour. They are the working end of a scene that has been building in living rooms, church basements and rented studio hours for years. Sunday, August 30, they put it in front of people at the same time.

The studio runs on a documented cadence: weekly sessions, monthly releases, quarterly flagship records, and an annual catalog. The room is not just a place — it is a schedule that makes the next record possible.

SOPs as culture

Workflows are written down so knowledge survives turnover, travel, and time. From tracking templates to franchise-ready operations, the standard procedure is how the culture is passed forward.

Long-range planning

Byron's four decades behind the console are guided by a way of thinking — about lineage, responsibility, and the people in the room. As a thinker, planner, worker doer, mentor, son, brother, cousin, friend, community member, heir to a family gas station, and a pawn-shop kid, his perspective is built from the relationships and systems that run deeper than credits. Every mix is a record of relationships. Every session is a chance to keep the record straight.

Listen first, then produce

The console is a listening post. Before a fader moves, the room, the artist, and the history of the record are heard. That attention is what lets four decades of New Orleans sound pass through one pair of hands without losing its shape.

Lineage is a responsibility

From Cash Money's foundational sessions to the rooms shaping the next chapter, every record carries forward something that came before. The work is to keep the lineage intact while making room for what hasn't been heard yet.

Community is the archive

Thinker, planner, worker doer, mentor, son, brother, cousin, friend, community member — these are not roles kept outside the studio. They are the lens. The people in the room, the notes on the wall, and the relationships built over years are the living archive.

Every record, room, and mural in Byron's orbit depends on people who show up without needing the spotlight. Engineers, mentors, apprentices, studio hands, and neighborhood organizers — the worker doers who keep the standards high and the culture moving.

Studio hands & engineers

Formative Ground

Where the work comes from.

Before the studios, the sessions, and the archive, there were rooms in New Orleans that set the standard. A grand godmother's day care, a family gas station, and a historic pawn shop taught Byron how to serve, how to listen, and how to carry a name.

Ms. Thelma Brown's Day Care

The first room. Ms. Thelma Brown — Byron's grand godmother — ran a New Orleans day care where the neighborhood's children were fed, watched, corrected, and loved on a schedule she kept without fail. Long before a console or a call sheet, this is where Byron learned that a well-run room is an act of care, and that the person holding the room is responsible for everyone in it.

Lessons carried forward

Care before curriculum — a child learns when they feel safe first.
Room discipline — a day care runs on routine, patience, and a schedule you keep.
Godparents are family — the village raised the operator before the industry did.
Everybody gets counted — nobody leaves the room unnoticed.

Heir to Jupiter Exxon

Byron grew up around Jupiter Exxon — the family's full-service, Black-owned gas station in New Orleans. Pumping gas, checking oil, cleaning windshields, and greeting every driver by name was the first standard of care he inherited. The family name was on the sign, so the work had to match it.

Lessons carried forward

Ownership — the family name on the sign sets the floor for the work.
Full-service standard — greet every driver, check every fluid, leave the windshield clean.
Show up — the neighborhood counts on the doors being open when you said they would be.

Standing in for Uncle Wilbert at Gerber Pawn Shop

Byron wasn't a counter clerk at Gerber. He was the stand-in for his uncle Wilbert — a very large, deeply trusted man — whenever Wilbert took vacation. That meant sitting in Wilbert's seat, directly facing the front door, right beside the cash register, at one of New Orleans' historic pawn shops. When the register got heavy, he walked pockets full of cash to the bank for the shop. All while running his own mobile DJ business on the side, with his parents' help.

Lessons carried forward

Trust is inherited, then earned — sitting in a trusted man's seat as a teenager; the chair does part of the work, you do the rest.
Situational awareness — facing the door beside the register, reading every person who walked in before they reached the counter.
Cash discipline — walking pockets full of money to the bank taught routing, timing, and not looking like you're carrying it.
Cross-cultural fluency — a New Orleans pawn shop is one of the few rooms where every neighborhood meets; you learn to speak to all of them.
Objects carry stories — instruments, tools, heirlooms; every item has a history and a price.
Two ledgers at once — running a mobile DJ business on the side taught the operator's mindset early: multiple revenue streams, showing up regardless.
Parents as co-founders — the DJ business ran on family help, the same way the seat at Gerber ran on family trust. The pattern behind today's archive work was already set.

The Operator's Origin

Everything I learned about showing up, I learned from him.

Byron Sr. did not just raise a producer. He raised the person who would become one — a "father of a century" who doubled as road manager, sponsor, and first teacher. He taught the practical parts of the business before there was a business: how to move equipment, how to read a room, how to keep your word when the money is small and the hours are long.

When the family needed a driver, a bank runner, a trusted hand, or a quiet sponsor behind the scenes, he was there. His support built the floor that let the archive stand. This site is his work, too.
